Pilate

SUMMARY

Pontius Pilate, the Judge of Judea, must struggle to balance his own sense of duty, honor, and loyalty when he is faced with the most serious battle of his life.  It isn’t his life that he is trying to save though; it’s Jesus’.  How can Pilate possibly hope to save his childhood friend from immanent persecution and death when the self-righteous Jewish High Priest, the Will of Rome, Prophesy, and Jesus himself, all point to the same verdict?

SETTING

Pilate’s Court in Judea

CHARACTERS

​5 Characters: 4 Males, 1 Either

​​CAIAPHAS:​(M) High Priest.  Dressed much like a bishop or a cardinal, with a lot of red and gold ornamentation, and a huge ring on his finger.
JESUS:​(M) Christ.  Dressed comfortably.  Something like a pair of blue jeans, an off-white Henley t-shirt tucked in, and sandals. ​
JOSEPH:(M) ​​Joseph of Arimathea, A Chief Priest.  Dressed in simple white priest robes with a simple sash with the Star of David on it.
PILATE:(M) ​​Governor of Judea.  Dressed in a dark suit and tie.  In the court scenes he is also wearing a judge’s robe.
GUARD’S VOICE:(E) ​​The Guard is never actually seen, only his/her voice is heard from off stage.  The Guard also delivers the Optional Prologue.
