SUMMARY​

​​Three years after the play “The Peanut Gallery” we return to the permanent patient’s wing of the Gimler Mental Health Community (a.k.a The Peanut Gallery) which is now famous for its ability to actually make progress with its patients and successfully release them back into society.  Unfortunately, after Dr. Gimler passes away, his family does not uphold his last wishes and withdraws their funding from the GMHC, causing it to go bankrupt.  Now the money must be found to run the hospital or all the patients must be sent to a different facility

SETTING

The majority of the play takes place in the Common Room of the Permanent Patient’s Wing of the Gimler Mental Health Community (a.k.a “The Peanut Gallery”), except for a couple of scenes which take place in Dr. Berkley’s office or out front.

CHARACTERS

24 Characters:  6 Males, 14 Females, 4 Either

​​AGENTS (2):	(M/F) ​They can either be dressed in suits as special agents or dressed as soldiers.  One is male and one is female. They come to get Connie.  The AGENTS double as DELIA’S MOM and DELIA’S DAD.
​BERKLEY:	(F) DR. BERKLEY is the psychiatrist at the hospital.  She is very kind, caring, and frustrated at the fact the GMHC is shutting down.
CHATTER:	(F) ​CHATTER constantly hears voices talking to her.  (CHATTER can be made a male if needed.)
CODY:	(M) ​CODY speaks in “code.”  He never says anything directly.  To decipher what CODY is actually saying, look at first letter of each word that he says.
DELIA:	(F) DELIA behaves as a cavewoman, but there is much more to her than her hardened cavewoman attitude.  She is about twenty-four.
DELIA’S DAD:	(M) He is abusive to both YOUNG DELIA and his wife.  There is nothing redeeming about this man.  He comes in holding a bottle of beer.  He appears in DELIA’S dreams.  This is how DELIA remembers him.
DELIA’S MOM:	​She is fearful and submissive to her husband.  She is afraid to stand up to him even when he rips into YOUNG DELIA.  She wears frumpy clothes. She appears in DELIA’S dreams.  This is how DELIA remembers her.
KELSEY:	(F) (A.K.A THING 1.)  She is a nurse who basically acts as a body guard; she simply jumps in to break up conflicts and chase after escapees.  Kelsey never speaks in front of the Peanuts. ​
JACK:	(M) ​JACK thinks he is a different famous Jack each day.
JERRY:	(M) (A.K.A THING 2) He is a former Peanut. He speaks with a heavy Texan accent.  He is now a security guard in the Peanut Gallery.
JULIE:	(F) MRS. PROCTOR’S daughter and KATHY’S kid sister.
LUIE:	​(M) is a former Peanut who is now a spokesperson for the GMHC.  He has a huge crush on TIE.
KATHY:	​(F) KATHY rotates between being a parrot, a chimp, and herself.
IZZY:	(F) ​IZZY is extremely shaky and timid most of the time, but she has a few dark moments as well.  There might be a moment of happiness here and there, but even that needs to seem sullen.  IZZY speaks very little.  She is obviously the youngest in the Peanut Gallery; in her early to mid-teens.
MRS. PROCTOR:	(F) KATHY’S mother.  She is a rich socialite who is “embarrassed to have given birth to such a disgrace.” MRS. PROCTOR doubles as “the person in scrubs” when the time comes.
NEWSCASTERS:	(E) ​​Various news radio hosts and DJs talking about the GMHC.  There can be one to four of these, depending on the needs of your show.  Their voices can be pre-recorded or they can stand off to the side of the stage, holding a microphone, with a spotlight on them.
TIE:	(F) ​​TIE doesn’t speak.  She is a very random character, and gets her name because TIE is always wearing a Tie.  TIE often plays with KATHY, and quietly messes with people and games.  She has a huge crush on LUIE.
TRUDY:	(F) ​TRUDY is a former Peanut who is now returning to convince DELIA that she does not belong in a mental hospital.
YOUNG DELIA:	(F) ​DELIA when she was 15, living in an abusive home.  She appears in DELIA’S dreams and is how DELIA remembers herself as a youth.
